Do you remember the time (we in the VIP office think it was Kylie who kicked off the trend) when suddenly we all became 'brow conscious'? Perhaps it was the over-plucking of the nineties which lead us here, perhaps it was all the beauty journalists that started banging on about how the shape of your brows could change the shape of your face, perhaps it was just Kylie envy in yet another format, we're not sure. But if there really is one sure fire way to make you look instantly groomed and to ensure that all the expensive make up you buy just looks better on your face, then it's to have a proper, professional eyebrow thread. And in our opinion, a tint too. With an impressively long list of celeb clients including, the impeccably gorgeous Girls Aloud girls, Lily Allen, Lisa Snowdon, Leona Lewis and Geri Halliwell to name a few - you'd be mad not to rush down to your nearest Blink bar straight away! To keep us on 'brow' trend we asked the ladies at Blink to give us a few trend savvy tips... "This year all attention is on Eyebrows, whether you don the boyish scruffy look or the vampish Greta Garbo glamour - sleek, long and dramatically dark eyebrows are a must".
Threading is an ancient skill which uses simply cotton thread to remove unwanted hair. The thread is twisted and rolled across the surface of the skin entwining the hairs and removing them from the follicle. It's fast becoming recognised as the best way to get perfect brows - not only does it involve no chemicals or product use but it's meant to be loads less painful because it targets individual hairs, even the shortest ones, with minimum skin irritation. It's definitely super precise. And there's also the new argument that it's 'better than botox' because unlike waxing it doesn't stretch or pull your skin which can lead to wrinkles over time. There's now also the option of having your lash extensions, perming or tinting done at any of the Blink Bars - and they are also offering threading for the upper lip or any other facial areas. It's a drop in service, but with demand growing literally on a daily basis (11 locations as we write this), we recommend giving them a buzz before you pop down - especially if it's a busy Friday.
We got the founder, Vanita Parti to give us a few pointers on how to get the perfect eyebrows:
- Grow your eyebrows out fully and then with a white make up pencil create a parameter beyond which you will not go (i.e. to avoid over plucking and getting too thin)
- Place a pencil at the edge of your nose and point upwards. This is where your eyebrows begin. Place a pencil at the edge of your nose and imagine it going through the iris of your eye - this is where your arch should fall. Place the pencil at the edge of your nose and slant it to the end of your eye. This is where your eyebrow should end.
- Once measured up and marked - be careful to pluck the eyebrows from the roots and in the right direction. It is better to take off too little than too much so take the minimum of both eyebrows first to ensure that they are even and then decide whether you need to a take a little more off each of them. Ideally you will get your eyebrows threaded rather than pluck at home. An expert will make sure that they are even, that every hair is taken out by the roots and that you have the best shape to match your face.
- Once the eyebrows are shaped, choose an eyebrow pencil that is slightly darker than your original eyebrow colour and with gently strokes fill in any gaps and even out the colour of your brows. Blend the colour through with a mascara wand.
- Finally use some eyebrow grooming gel to keep your brows looking glossy, nourished and in place for the rest of the day.
